GROWTH & COMPETITIVENESS : WEATHERING THE CRISES AND LOOKING AHEAD


IFC and the Government of Albania co-sponsored the third regional business environment reform conference which was held in Tirana on November 17 – 19, 2009. The Conference titled Growth and Competitiveness: Weathering the Crisis and Looking Ahead, was organized around three central pillars: regulatory reform, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and trade logistics. It brought together key policymakers from the countries of the region, representatives of the private sector and academia, as well as representatives of the European Commission, OECD, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and the World Bank Group.

The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Sali Berisha, who stressed the need for continued reform to meet the challenges of global competitiveness and as Albania and the region moves toward EU integration.
