SESSION V-B Trade Logistics: Enhancing Regional Competitiveness
Improvements in trade logistics efficiency by reducing transaction times can have dramatic effects on the volume of trade, and thereby have direct implications for growth, investment, jobs and poverty reduction, concludes a powerful slide within this session. IFC's trade logistics product is essentially about improving economies' access to markets by reforming import and export procedures and overall supply chain management. Projects in this area focus on administrative and regulatory simplification, while at the same time balancing the need for effective inspection procedures at the border.
Examples of customs reforms in Croatia and Serbia showed the necessity for cross-border cooperation in establishing IT and risk management systems, and the challenge of reconciling demands of EU and national regulation while working to simplify customs procedures.
